Yesterday, Danny Carmichael posted a contest asking people to guess the name of a famous drummer to be announced soon as a Carmichael Throne endorser. The prize was a CT-200 High Performance Carmichael Throne. Already an endorser myself, I really shouldn’t have participated but I couldn’t help myself and casually threw a name out there. Totally unintentionally and not thinking I would, I guessed it right… Oops! We can’t announce the new endorser’s name just yet, but…
Having just purchased a Carmichael seat myself and having just stepped on board as an endorser, I didn’t feel it would be right to accept the prize. So I came up with the following:

Rather than accepting a second throne (which I really could use), I would much rather give this throne away to someone who really needs one. A winner will be chosen out of those drummers who submit their stories about how back/spine/tailbone pains/issues are interfering with their hobby or career as a drummer, and able to show proof (we will take your word for it, but a letter from your doctor or surgeon or documented medical history will move you to the top of the list). Bye-bye 2012!

Been a while since I posted an update here. I am assuming that whoever is interested in what I am up to follows me on Facebook or Twitter, where I am actively posting updates daily, and I end up forgetting about my website. So here’s a quick recap of some of the highlights of the past few months.

Since the fall, I did a few killer shows with the amazing Kudisan Kai (Chaka Khan, Elton John), as well as a killer hard rock band called Daredevil Squadron. DDS is a side-project by Andrew Ross and Angus Clark (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and my good friend and phenomenal guitarist Aurelien Budynek. I filled in for drummer Jason Gianni (Neal Morse band), who has been dealing with a shoulder injury.

Furthermore I did some more engineering/mixing work work for an online metal TV show called Talking Metal. They do all-star jams with legendary metal musicians at the Gibson showroom in NYC (formerly the amazing Hit Factory studios). I dragged half my studio out to the place and engineered and mixed the audio. Pretty amazing to be engineering music with my own equipment, in the room where a ton of legendary albums were recorded. I’ve been tracking a record amount of drum tracks in 2012, of which I’m hoping a lot will be released in 2013. Some pre-release bonus tracks for the Feckers album I did can be found here. I also just did a track for a band called Wildstreet, which can be downloaded for free on the band’s Reverbnation page. I also just finished up tracking all the drums for Milan Polak‘s upcoming album, which is some of the most fun music I’ve ever done. Look out for that one!

I’m getting ready to head out to NAMM again in January and am hoping to see a lot of my long-time music friends there. For now, I wish everybody a wonderful Christmas and a killer 2013!

I’m excited to announce that, next to my own top-notch studio, I now offer sessions at/from Fenix Studios in Staten Island, NY. Fenix is famous for its big, killer sounding all-wood live room. When hiring me to record drums to your music, you will now have the choice between either an affordable session at my own studio, or a session at one of the world’s most amazing studios. Rates vary, but as always… affordable!

“Ricochet” drum video

I’ve been getting quite a few requests for drum videos from fans of the various artists I’ve recorded for, as well as students, and I finally found a decent camera that can fit my while kit in its frame! As a first try-out editing HD video together, here’s a tune called “Ricochet” by a band called Truth Table for which I did several sessions between 2010 and recently. Killer songs. I’m hoping the album will be coming out later this year. Enjoy!

Paiste factory visit

I’m a little late with this one but I wouldn’t want to skip mentioning this…. Ever since I started playing the drum set when I was 13, I have been obsessed with Paiste cymbals. I had a short fling with another company but nothing compares to Paiste for me. I’ve always collected Paiste cymbals, vintage and new, as well as music with certain cymbals on it that I happen to love. I’m a geek! The Paiste factory in Switzerland has always been a mythical place that I dreamed of visiting like Charlie and the chocolate factory. Last month, that dream finally came true! It truly was mind-blowing to see the machines and meet the people that have created the very cymbals I have been listening to and looking at since I was a kid. I even got to hammer my own 12″ splash, which was insane. The folks at Paiste are simply a wonderful bunch, and I am so proud and excited to be part of the family.
